If your child is due to start secondary school in September 2026, they may need to take the Bexley Selection Test (11+) in 2025 to apply for a grammar school place. Below are all the essential details, including registration deadlines, test dates, and what to consider before signing up.

Important Dates for the Bexley 11+ Test 2025

  • Registration opens: 1 May 2025
  • Registration closes: 31 May 2025 (midnight) – Late entries will not be accepted.
  • Test dates:
    • Tuesday 9 September 2025 – For pupils at primary schools administering the test.
    • 8–11 September 2025 – For all other pupils.
  • Results day: To be confirmed (TBC)

Where Will the Test Take Place?

All registered children will take the test either:

  • At their own primary school (if it’s a test centre), or
  • At one of Bexley’s four grammar schools (listed below).

Parents and carers will receive a Familiarisation Guide to help children prepare.

Bexley Grammar Schools (Test Centres)

  • Beths Grammar School (Boys)
  • Bexley Grammar School (Mixed)
  • Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School (Mixed)
  • Townley Grammar School (Girls)

Who Can Take the Bexley 11+ Test?

Your child can sit the test if:

  • They were born between 1 September 2014 and 31 August 2015 (current Year 5 pupils).

If your child is outside this age range but expected to start secondary school in September 2026, email SelectionTests@bexley.gov.uk.

Important: Parents must register their child online—even if they attend a Bexley primary school.

Things to Consider Before Registering

  • The Bexley Test is only for Bexley grammar schools—Kent and Medway have their own tests.
  • Competition is high—only around 30% of children reach the selective standard (last year: 2,009 out of 6,423).
  • Passing doesn’t guarantee a place—grammar schools consider other admission rules (e.g., catchment areas).
  • Your child’s well-being matters—talk to them about the test and remind them that there are great non-grammar schools too.
  • Deadlines are strict—no late registrations!

Special Educational Needs (SEN) Arrangements

If your child has a disability or SEN that could affect their test performance:

  • Speak to their primary school’s SENCO (not the council).
  • The school must request adjustments before 31 May 2025.
