Kent County Council typically publishes their test dates in May on their website and they usually open registration for the 11+ test in early June. Year 5 pupils then sit the 11+ test in September.

At the time of writing this article, Kent County Council had not published the relevant dates. However, every year the timetable is very similar. The table below gives an idea of the timeframe parents need to keep in mind.

Please bear in mind that the Kent test is specifically for entry into grammar schools in Kent. If you’re considering schools in other areas, be aware that:

  • Medway Council has its own Medway Test.
  • The London Borough of Bexley has its own Bexley Selection Test.

Even if your child is assessed as grammar school eligible, it does not automatically mean they will get a place at a Kent grammar school. Admission depends on other factors, such as school capacity and oversubscription criteria.

Special Educational Needs or Disabilities

If your child has a disability or special educational needs (SEN) that could affect their test performance:

  • Speak to your child’s primary school SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) before registering.
  • The school may need to apply for access arrangements (such as extra time or modified test materials) to support your child during the test.
