St Olave's

St Olave’s is one of the most competitive grammar schools in the UK, attracting well over a thousand applications each year. Missing the registration deadline means losing the opportunity to send your son to St Olave’s as this school does not accept late applications.

For families preparing for the St Olave’s 11+ exam, understanding the admissions timeline early is essential.

When Does the St Olave’s Registration Open and Close?

Published admissions arrangements for 2026/27 entry indicate the St Olave’s Supplementary Information Form (SIF) will be available from Monday 8 June 2026 and the deadline for submitting the form is Monday 29 June 2026 at midday.

Parents must complete the school’s online registration process within this window to register their son for the Selective Eligibility Test (SET).

What Do Parents Need to Submit?

Before completing the Supplementary Information Form, parents should prepare:

  • A recent passport-style photograph of the candidate
  • Information regarding any SEND requirements
  • Details of medical needs that may affect testing
  • Evidence of Pupil Premium eligibility where applicable

The school requests this information during the registration process to ensure appropriate arrangements can be made.

How Does the St Olave’s 11+ Entrance Process Work?

St Olave’s uses a two-stage assessment process to determine whether candidates are suitable for a selective grammar school education.

Stage 1: Selective Eligibility Test (SET)

Date: Friday 18 September 2026

The SET lasts one hour and consists of multiple-choice questions covering:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Verbal Reasoning
  • Non-Verbal Reasoning

Candidates who achieve the required standard are invited to proceed to Stage 2.

Stage 2 Entrance Test

Date: Friday 13 November 2026

Stage 2 consists of:

  • One-hour English paper
  • One-hour Mathematics paper

Performance across both stages contributes to the final ranking of candidates.

The St Olave’s selection process is markedly different to most other grammar school exams. For this reason, it can be especially helpful to have the support of an 11 plus tuition centre. For instance, most grammar schools entrance exams do not require candidates to sit a creative writing exam. The preparation for a creative writing exam is very different to preparing for the regular English, Maths, VR or NVR exam. At Grammar School Pathway, we have in-house creative writing experts who can guide children through the creative writing component.

Does Registration Guarantee a School Place?

No.

Registering for the entrance tests does not guarantee admission. After Stage 2, candidates are ranked according to their performance and places are allocated through the coordinated admissions process.

Parents must also submit their Local Authority secondary school application and include St Olave’s among their school preferences.

When Are St Olave’s Offers Made?

National Offer Day for September 2026/27 entry is on 1 March 2027, and as such, an offer of a place will be made on this date.

Offers are made by the Local Authority, London Borough of Bromley, based on candidate rankings and parental preferences.
